MAITLEN, GERANT JOSEPH BPR # 009224
August 19, 1996
Public censure on August 19, 1996. During a period of personal financial problems, he filed a
bankruptcy on behalf of a client and advised her as to miscellaneous other matters. After she
was discharged from the bankruptcy, he purchased the client's home and had her deed the home
to a trust for his children. Maitlen also had marital problems, divorced his wife and remarried.
He sold his home and was able to purchase a new one as a result of what he called a $26,000
loan from his former client. However, there was a trust agreement prepared by his then partner,
Anthony Avery, which indicated that the $26,000 was a gift. In this situation, a further
corporation by the name of "Jelisco" was created and Jelisco received the $26,000. This was to
be a company holding money in trust for Maitlen's children but it was never actually
incorporated.
