DAVIDSON COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED
On June 17, 2026, Sornavidya Saba Sankar, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a
Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Ms. Sankar admittedly abused substances and experienced mental health issues. During such time, Ms.
Sankar failed to communicate with her clients about their cases being reset due to her circumstances, failed to
appear in court without contacting her clients or the Court, and failed to respond to the Courtâs inquiries into her
status, thereby delaying litigation. Ms. Sankar represented to the Court that she would appear at a hearing then
failed to attend, resulting in multiple cases being reset and new attorneys being appointed to replace her. In her
condition, Ms. Sankar failed to act competently in representing her clients. She also made multiple
misrepresentations to a colleague about self-reporting to the Board.
By these acts, Ms. Sankar has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1 (competence), 1.3 (diligence),
1.4(a)(3) (communication), 3.2 (expediting litigation), 8.4(c) and 8.4(d) (misconduct) and is hereby Publicly
Censured for these violations.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to
practice law.
