DAVIDSON COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED
On July 30, 2012, Robert Joseph Turner, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a
Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee.
Mr. Turner made claims on his website that were not verifiable and were thus misleading. Also, Mr.
Turner improperly used the word âspecialtiesâ on the website. He also disclosed the occupations of former
clients in violation of client confidentiality. In another matter, Mr. Turner sent a written advertisement to a
potential client that stated at the bottom of the letter, âEligible but not certified as a family law specialist by the
Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization,â which was misleading and violates
the Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC).
By these acts, Robert Joseph Turner has violated RPC 1.6 (confidentiality), 7.1 (communication
concerning a lawyers services), and 7.4 (communication of fields of practice) and is hereby Publicly Censured
for these violations.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to
practice law.
