MONTGOMERY COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED

On June 17, 2022, Stanley Douglas Darnell, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a
Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.

During his representation of a client, Mr. Darnell failed to provide sufficient oversight of his legal
assistant, who prepared a forged final decree and letter without Mr. Darnell’s knowledge. Further, Mr. Darnell
did not have protocols in place sufficient to reveal that the client’s divorce petition had not been filed. In addition,
Mr. Darnell received a flat fee for the representation and failed to place the unearned funds in his trust account at
the beginning of the representation.

By these acts, Mr. Darnell has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.3 (diligence), 1.15 (safekeeping
property and funds), and 5.3 (responsibilities regarding nonlawyer assistance) and is hereby Publicly Censured
for this violation.

A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorney’s ability to
practice law.
