MEMPHIS LAWYER CENSURED
On June 21, 2010, James W. Hodges of Memphis, Tennessee, was publicly censured by the Tennessee
Supreme Court.
The Board of Professional Responsibility filed a Petition for Discipline against Mr. Hodges pursuant to
Rule 9 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Tennessee. Mr. Hodges submitted a Conditional Guilty Plea that
was approved by the Hearing Panel, the Board and the Supreme Court. Mr. Hodges violated the Rules of
Professional Conduct by failing to diligently represent and communicate with a client. Mr. Hodgesâ actions
violated the following Rules of Professional Conduct: 1.3 (Diligence), 1.4 (Communication), and 8.4
(Misconduct). Mr. Hodges was further ordered to pay the costs of the disciplinary proceedings.
For these violations, the Supreme Court of Tennessee publicly censured James W. Hodges, Jr. A public
censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to practice law.
