BRENTWOOD ATTORNEY CENSURED

On July 18, 2006, Steven T. Raney, of Brentwood, Tennessee, received a Public Censure
from the Board of Professional Responsibility. Raney was given notice of the Censure and did
not request a hearing.

On January 18, 2005, a client hired Raney as a staff attorney. In support of his
application for staff attorney, Raney submitted a resume and cover letter stating that he was
licensed to practice law in Tennessee when in fact Raney was suspended since September, 2003.
On September 24, 2003, Raney was summarily suspended for non-payment of his annual fee.
On September 25, 2003, Raney was summarily suspended for CLE non-compliance. On January
7, 2005, Raney’s CLE suspension was removed yet Raney remained suspended for non-payment
of his annual fee. On September 19, 2005, Raney was again suspended for CLE non-
compliance. On January 30, 2006, Raney’s CLE suspension was removed. On January 31,
2006, Raney’s non-payment suspension was removed. Raney’s practicing law while on
suspension violates Rules 1.16; 5.5 and 8.4(a)(c)(d)(g) of the Tennessee Rules of Professional
Conduct. For these violations, the Board of Professional Responsibility publicly censures
Raney. The Censure declares Raney’s actions to be improper but does not limit his right to
practice law.
