BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

February 21, 2008
GAINESBORO LAWYER CENSURED
By Order of the Supreme Court of Tennessee entered February 14, 2008, William L.
Draper was Publicly Censured. A Petition for Discipline was filed against Mr. Draper by the
Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee on May 23, 2006. On
November 17, 2006, the Hearing Panel entered a Default Judgment against Mr. Draper on the
Petition for Discipline and deemed admitted the allegations made therein. A hearing was
conducted before the Hearing Panel on November 17, 2006, to determine the sanction to be
imposed. By the Judgment of the Hearing Panel filed December 1, 2006, and Amended
Judgment filed December 18, 2006, the Hearing Panel found that the Respondent’s conduct in
pursuing an interest against a former client which was substantially related to the matter in which
the Respondent had represented the former client violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.6(a),
1.7(a)(b), 1.9, and 8.4(c)(d) and that Mr. Draper should be publicly censured. The Respondent
did not seek review of the Judgment of the Hearing Panel.
It was further ordered that Mr. Draper reimburse the Board of Professional Responsibility
the costs and expenses of the proceeding in the amount of $2,172.40.
A Public Censure is a form of public discipline which declares the conduct of the lawyer
improper but does not limit the lawyer’s right to practice.
