NASHVILLE ATTORNEY CENSURED
On October 11, 2005, the Board of Professional Responsibility publicly censured Fannie J. Harris,
a Nashville, Tennessee attorney. The Board of Professional Responsibility gave Harris notice of the
censure and she did not request a hearing.
Harris represented the Complainantâs son in criminal charges. The Complainant filed a complaint
with the Board of Professional Responsibility complaining in part about a meeting Harris had with the
District Attorney on approximately February 25, 2005. In correspondence to the Board of Professional
Responsibility the Respondent stated that she did not been with the Bedford County District Attorneyâs
office on February 24, 2005 or February 25, 2005. Harris further stated to the Board in correspondence
âThere is no video (DVD) recording of a meeting between myself and the Bedford County District
Attorneyâs Office on February 24, 2005, February 25, 2005, or any other date because such meeting did
not occur.â The Complainant subsequently provided the Board of Professional Responsibility with a
copy of the DVD dated February 25, 2005 reflecting a meeting at the jail between Harrisâ client, Harris,
the District Attorney and a Bedford County Detective. Harrisâ misrepresentation to the Board of
Professional Responsibility regarding this February 25, 2005 meeting violates Rule 8.4(b)(c)(d) of the
Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct. For these statements, the Board publicly censured Harris. The
censure declares Harrisâ actions to be improper but does not limit her right to practice law.
