TENNESSEE LAWYER DISBARRED
Effective April 26, 2021 Kurt J. Pomrenke of Abingdon, Virginia, was permanently disbarred from the
practice of law in Tennessee. On December 28, 2020, Mr. Pomrenke pled guilty to Count 1 of the Information,
which is a charge brought by the United States Attorney. Court 1 charges Mr. Pomrenke with Conspiracy to
Defraud the United States, in violation of 18 United States Code Section 371. The maximum statutory penalty
pursuant to 18 United States Code Section 371 is a fine of $250,000 and/or imprisonment for a term of five
years, plus a term of supervised release.
As a result, on December 28, 2020, the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board entered an Consent to
Revocation Order stating that “Kurt Joseph Pomrenke presented to the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board an
Affidavit Declaring Consent to Revocation of his license to practice law in the courts of this Commonwealth.
By tendering his Consent to Revocation at a time when allegations of Misconduct are pending, the nature of
which are specifically set forth in the attached Affidavit, Mr. Pomrenke acknowledges that the material facts
upon which the allegations of Misconduct are true.”
On March 17, 2021, the Supreme Court of Tennessee entered a Notice of Reciprocal Discipline
directing Mr. Pomrenke to inform the Court within thirty (30) days of receipt of the Notice as to why the
discipline imposed by the Commonwealth of Virginia should not be imposed by this Court. Mr. Promrenke
provided no response to the Supreme Court.
