MEMPHIS LAWYER CENSURED

On May 23, 2008, James D. Adams, of Memphis, Tennessee, received a Public Censure from the
Tennessee Supreme Court.

The Board of Professional Responsibility filed a Petition for Discipline against James D. Adams
pursuant to Rule 9 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Tennessee. Mr. Adams submitted a Conditional Guilty
Plea agreeing to accept a Public Censure. Mr. Adams violated the Rules of Professional Conduct by
simultaneously representing a mother and her son in a domestic assault case without informing the clients of the
implications of the common representation or obtaining written consent from either client and by engaging in a
practice of accepting representation from clients only for a limited purpose which was both misleading and
confusing to his clients. His actions violate the following Rule(s) of Professional Conduct: 1.4(a)
(Communication), 1.7(c) (Conflict of Interest), and 8.4(a)(c) and (d) (Misconduct). Mr. Adams is required to
pay the costs of the disciplinary proceedings.

For these violations, the Supreme Court of Tennessee publicly censures James D. Adams. A public
censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not limit the attorney’s right to practice law.
