MEMPHIS LAWYER DISBARRED
On May 11, 2010, James M. Hoots, of Memphis, Tennessee, was disbarred by Order of the Tennessee
Supreme Court.
Mr. Hoots delivered to the Board of Professional Responsibility an affidavit consenting to disbarment
because he could not successfully defend himself on charges alleged against him in a complaint. Mr. Hoots had
previously been temporarily suspended by the Supreme Court on February 17, 2010, for misappropriation of
funds.
Mr. Hoots must comply with the requirements of Section 19 of Rule 9, Rules of the Supreme Court
should he seek reinstatement of his Tennessee law license, and may not resume the practice of law until
reinstated by further Order of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Mr. Hoots must further comply with Section 18 of
Rule 9, Rules of the Supreme Court, regarding the obligations and responsibilities of disbarred attorneys.
