SHELBY COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED

On July 15, 2019, Urura Mayers, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a Public
Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Ms. Mayers presented a check drawn on her trust account to a court clerk’s office for payment of a filing
fee before client funds covering the cost of the filing fee had been deposited into her trust account, resulting in
an overdraft. Ms. Mayers also failed to properly supervise a legal assistant who used the trust account to pay
personal expenses.
By these acts, Ms. Mayers, has violated Rule of Professional Conduct 1.15 (Safekeeping Property and
Funds) and 5.3 (Responsibilities Regarding Non-Lawyer Assistants) and is hereby Publicly Censured for this
violation.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorney’s ability to
practice law.
