KNOXVILLE LAWYER SUSPENDED
On January 24, 2012, the Tennessee Supreme Court suspended the law license of Wesley Markland
Baker, a Knoxville attorney, for a definite period of two years and indefinitely thereafter until Mr. Baker makes
full restitution to his client and/or the Lawyer’s Fund for Client Protection.

On November 5, 2010, the Board of Professional Responsibility filed a Petition for Discipline against
Mr. Baker, pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 9. A Hearing Panel found Mr. Baker sought and received a loan
from a client in violation of a court order. The client was found in contempt and ordered to pay attorney’s fees.
Mr. Baker failed to pay the attorney fees and failed to repay the loan.

Mr. Baker’s actions violated the following Rules of Professional Conduct: 1.5 (Fees), 1.8 (Conflicts),
1.15 (Safekeeping Funds); 3.3 (Candor toward a Tribunal); 3.4 (Fairness to Opposing Party and Counsel); 8.1
(Disciplinary Matters) and 8.4 (Misconduct).

Mr. Baker was further ordered to pay the expenses and costs of the disciplinary proceedings against him,
pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 24.3, and fully comply in all respects with the requirements and
obligations of suspended attorneys as set forth in Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 18.
