NASHVILLE LAWYER REINSTATED
D. Michael Van Sant, a Nashville lawyer, has been reinstated to the practice of law by Order of
the Tennessee Supreme Court entered on October 12, 2004. Mr. Van Sant was temporarily
suspended from the practice of law on January 14, 2004, for failing to respond to a complaint of
misconduct. He subsequently filed an answer to the complaint and a hearing panel of the Board
of Professional Responsibility recommended that the suspension be dissolved. The order
requires Mr. Van Sant to have a law practice management consultation, at his expense, within six
months of the date of the order.
The extreme sanction of temporary suspension is imposed only after a lawyer has failed to
respond to a number of inquiries from disciplinary counsel concerning a complaint or complaints
of ethical misconduct. The order dissolving the temporary suspension was effective upon entry
on October 12, 2004.
