NASHVILLE LAWYER SUSPENDED FROM PRACTICE OF LAW

On April 4, 2002, the Supreme Court of Tennessee entered an Order suspending the law license
of Helen Loftin Cornell for a period of six (6) months and ordered that she be required to participate in an
ethics course.

Disciplinary Counsel filed a Petition for Discipline pursuant to Rule 9, Rules of the Supreme Court
of Tennessee. The Hearing Panel of the Board of Professional Responsibility found that Cornell violated
DR 7-106 and DR 7-102 in that she knowingly engaged in conduct which is contrary to the Disciplinary
Rules, used false evidence, participated in the creation or preservation of evidence which she knew was
false. The Hearing Panel further found the Respondent attempted to perpetrate a fraud upon the Claims
Commission in passing of a signature which she knew was forged. The Hearing Panel recommended that
Cornell be suspended from the practice of law for a period of six (6) months and be required to participate
in an ethics course.

The Tennessee Supreme Court acted upon the recommendation of the Hearing Panel and ordered
that Cornell be suspended from the practice of law for a period of six (6) months; that Cornell be required
to participate in an ethics course; and that Cornell pay the costs assessed against her. Section 18 of
Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9 requires Cornell to notify by registered or certified mail all clients being
represented in pending matters; all co-counsel and opposing counsel of the Supreme Court=s Order
suspending her license. Section 18 also requires Cornell to deliver to all clients any papers or property to
which they are entitled.
