Speaker Biographies
James J. Grogan is an Illinois lawyer and educator who concentrates
his practice in professional responsibility and lawyer ethics law. Mr. Grogan
received an undergraduate degree from Lewis University in 1977 and his J.D.
degree from the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law in 1980. He
retired in 2019 as the Deputy Administrator and the Chief Counsel of the
Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of
Illinois (ARDC) where, for almost 40 years, he investigated and prosecuted
hundreds of charges of lawyer misconduct and argued dozens of disciplinary
cases in the Supreme Court of Illinois. Mr. Grogan is a Past President of the
National Organization of Bar Counsel (NOBC), the bar association of lawyer
regulators. For over 36 years he has taught legal ethics, first at the DePaul University College of
Law and then at the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law, where he is an Adjunct
Professor. Over the course of his career, he has presented over twelve-hundred speeches, lectures
and workshops to law firms, bar associations, corporations and judicial and governmental groups
and agencies on various lawyer regulation topics. He has also served as an ethics consultant and
an expert witness regarding a variety of lawyer regulatory concerns.
John Lesko practiced as a litigator for more than a decade, and he
is strident in his belief that any attorney courageous enough to seek help
for a substance use or mental health condition is deserving of
compassion and a second chance. John transitioned to a career as a
credentialed addiction clinician in 2008, working exclusively with
lawyers and other licensed professionals experiencing substance use and
mental health concerns. Serving the clinical needs of licensed
professionals nationally while concurrently advocating to their licensing
boards, employers and families, John has helped hundreds of
individuals across the United States achieve personal recovery and re-establish successful
careers.
John holds specialty credentials as a Certified Addiction Professional and an Internationally
Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. John practiced law in Ohio, primarily in workersâ
compensation. John received his law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law,
after receiving his bachelorâs degree in economics from UCLA. Born and raised just a couple
miles from the old Municipal Stadium In Cleveland, OH, John remains a long-suffering Browns
fan.
Speaker Biographies
Bill Ramsey is a member of the firm Neal & Harwell. The primary
focus of Mr. Ramseyâs professional practice is complex civil and criminal
litigation. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where he
graduated with high honors in Mechanical Engineering. He received his
law degree from the University of Tennessee where he was a member of the
Order of the Coif and the University of Tennessee Law Review. He has
represented a wide variety of defendants in federal white-collar
prosecutions and investigations. He has extensive civil jury trial experience
in a wide variety of cases, including personal injury, business torts,
computer and technology litigation and complex commercial transactions.
Sheila Calloway, originally from Louisville, KY, moved to Nashville
in 1987 to attend Vanderbilt University, earning her bachelorâs in
communications in 1991 and her Juris Doctor in 1994. Afterward, she
dedicated herself to a career in law, starting at the Metropolitan Public
Defenderâs Office before becoming a Juvenile Court Magistrate in 2004,
appointed by Judge Betty Adams Green. Sheila served until November
2013, when she ran for Juvenile Court Judge, winning the election and
assuming office in 2014. Recognized for her integrity, she was re-elected in
2022. Alongside her judicial duties, she teaches Trial Advocacy at
Vanderbilt University Law School and Juvenile Law at Belmont College of
Law, fostering the next generation of legal professionals. Sheila Calloway is known for her
innovative approach to justice, blending humor, passion, and wisdom to challenge norms in the
legal system, leaving a lasting impact on her community. Sheila Calloway serves the legal
community and the juvenile justice community through her service on the Executive Committee
of the Tennessee Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (TCJFCJ), where she serves as the Vice-
President. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the National Council of Juvenile and
Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ), and on the Judicial Leadership Council of the National
CASA/GAL Association. She is also involved in the community, donating her time to
organizations such as Leadership Nashville, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Napier Looby Bar
Association, Nashville Public Education Foundation, and the Nashville Repertory Theater. Judge
Calloway has been recognized by various community agencies for being a leader in her field.
