NASHVILLE LAWYER CENSURED
On January 27, 2009, Joseph Beecham, of Nashville, Tennessee, received a Public Censure from the
Board of Professional Responsibility. The censure was issued by the Board pursuant to Rule 9, Section 8.1, of
the Rules of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Beecham did not request a hearing on the matter.
Respondentâs license to practice law was suspended on August 29, 2007, for non-payment of BPR fees,
and on September 4, 2007, for non-compliance with Continuing Legal Education requirements. Respondentâs
license was not fully reinstated until October 8, 2008. In the meantime, in July and August of 2008,
Respondent filed suits in Davidson County General Sessions Court on behalf of a client, thereby practicing law
while suspended.
Respondentâs conduct violated Rule 5.5 of the Rules of Professional Responsibility and rules of the
Supreme Court of Tennessee regulating the practice of law.
For these violations, the Board of Professional Responsibility publicly censures Joseph Beecham. A
Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not prevent the attorney from continuing to
practice law.
