MARYVILLE LAWYER CENSURED BY SUPREME COURT

Charles David Deas, a Maryville attorney, received a Public Censure from the Board of
Professional Responsibility on September 26, 2005. On March 4, 2005, Mr. Deas pleaded guilty
to two counts of driving under the influence in Blount County General Sessions Court and
received a sentence of eleven months and twenty-nine days, all but four days of which were
suspended. Mr. Deas was given supervised probation during the remainder of that period, with
several conditions, including that he obtain drug and alcohol treatment. Mr. Deas also failed to
respond to requests for additional information from Disciplinary Counsel during investigation of
the complaints.

Mr. Deas' conduct violated Rules of Professional Conduct 8.1 and 8.4.

A Public Censure is a form of public discipline which declares the conduct of the lawyer
improper but does not limit the lawyer's right to practice.
