MARYVILLE LAWYER CENSURED
On April 15, 2010, Charles A. Carpenter, a Tennessee attorney, received a Public Censure from the
Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Mr. Carpenter failed to communicate with his client regarding the status of the client's criminal case. In
addition, the client had court dates set for September and October 2009, but he did not appear because Mr.
Carpenter failed to file orders for the client to be transported for those hearings. A warrant was issued after the
client failed to appear for the October hearing. Mr. Carpenter failed to respond to the Board's requests for
additional information.
Mr. Carpenterâs actions violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1 (competence), 1.4 (communication)
and 8.1 (failing to respond to Disciplinary Counsel) and is hereby Publicly Censured for those violations.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to
practice law.
