On January 25, 2023, Patrick E. Stegall, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a
Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Mr. Stegall represented a client in defense of criminal charges. After appealing his clientâs conviction,
Mr. Stegall failed to file the trial court transcript as required by applicable rules of court, or file a motion for an
extension of the filing deadline. A show cause proceeding was initiated because of Mr. Stegallâs conduct,
which resulted in an order finding Mr. Stegall in contempt.
By these acts, Patrick E. Stegall has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.3 (diligence), 3.2
(expediting litigation), and 3.4(c) (knowing violation of an obligation under the rules of a tribunal) and is
hereby Publicly Censured for these violations.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to
practice law.
