BEDFORD COUNTY LAWYER SUSPENDED
On October 26, 2010, Clarence W. Phillips of Shelbyville, Tennessee, was suspended from the
practice of law for sixty (60) days by the Tennessee Supreme Court. The suspension shall become
effective on November 5, 2010.
The Board of Professional Responsibility filed a Petition for Discipline against Clarence W. Phillips
pursuant to Rule 9 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Tennessee. Mr. Phillips submitted a Conditional
Guilty Plea agreeing to accept a sixty (60) day suspension. Mr. Phillips violated the Rules of Professional
Conduct by sending a direct mail solicitation to a prospective client in violation of RPC 7.3. Mr. Phillips
failed to ensure that the phrase âthis is an advertisementâ was located on the envelope of his solicitation
letter.
His actions violate the following Rule(s) of Professional Conduct: 7.3, Solicitation and Other
Communication Directed to Specifically Identified Recipients and 8.4, Misconduct. Mr. Phillips is
required to pay the costs of the disciplinary proceedings.
