LAW LICENSE OF JOHNSON CITY LAWYER SUSPENDED
On May 1, 2006, the Supreme Court of Tennessee immediately suspended the law license
of Michael D. Kellum, a Johnson City attorney, pursuant to Section 4.3 of Tennessee Supreme
Court Rule 9. Disciplinary Counsel had petitioned the Court to suspend Mr. Kellumâs law
license. Disciplinary Counsel alleged that Mr. Kellum posed a substantial threat of irreparable
harm to the public and that he failed to respond to complaints filed against him.
Pursuant to Rule. 4.3 Mr. Kellum cannot accept new clients. He may represent existing
clients for 30 days, after which he cannot represent them. He is entitled to request a hearing to
consider whether this suspension may continue or whether it may be dissolved subject to the
fulfillment of conditions. This hearing would be held before two members of the Board of
Professional Responsibility and one hearing committee member from the hearing committee
member pool of Upper East Tennessee.
