BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
July 3, 2003
NASHVILLE ATTORNEY SUSPENDED FROM PRACTICE OF LAW
Stuart W. Fields, a Nashville attorney, has been temporarily suspended from the
practice of law in this state by an Order of the Supreme Court of Tennessee, entered on
July 1, 2003. The Court suspended Fields based upon the sworn statement of a client
that he forged her signature to a settlement check and misappropriated the clientâs
funds to his own use.
This suspension was issued pursuant to Section 4.3 of Tennessee Supreme
Court Rule 9. Fields is precluded from accepting any new clients after July 1, 2003, and
is precluded from representing any clients after July 31, 2003. After July 31, 2003,
Fields shall cease to use any indicia of lawyer, legal assistant or law clerk and he shall
not be present in or staff an office where the practice of law is conducted.
Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 18, and the Courtâs order require
Fields to notify by registered or certified mail all clients represented in pending matters,
all co-counsel and opposing counsel of the Supreme Courtâs Order of Suspension.
Section 18 also requires Fields to deliver to all clients any papers or property to which
they are entitled.
This suspension shall remain in effect indefinitely until it is dissolved or amended
by Order of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Fields has a right to apply for a hearing to
dissolve or amend the suspension.
