KNOXVILLE ATTORNEY DISBARRED

Nathanael Ellis Anderson, a Knoxville attorney, was disbarred and ordered to pay restitution totaling
$70,811.85 to former clients by Order of the Tennessee Supreme Court filed March 2, 2009. Forty six (46)
complaints from Judges, attorneys and clients were filed with the Board of Professional Responsibility and
included in the Board’s Petitions for Discipline filed against Anderson between March, 2008 and September,
2008.

By Judgment filed December 23, 2008, a three (3) member Hearing Panel found Anderson violated the
Rules of Professional Conduct and recommended Anderson be disbarred and ordered to pay restitution totaling
$70,811.85 to former clients. The Hearing Panel found Anderson continued to practice law after Anderson’s
suspension on September 21, 2007; made false statements to courts, opposing counsel and clients regarding
Anderson’s suspension, and accepted fees while suspended, in violation of Rules 1.2 (scope of representation);
1.3 (diligence); 1.4 (communication); 1.5 (fees); 1.7 (conflict of interest); 1.15 (safeguarding property); 1.16
(terminating representation); 3.2 (expediting litigation); 3.3 (candor towards the tribunal); 3.4 (fairness to
opposing party and counsel); 3.5 (impartiality and decorum of the tribunal); 4.1 (truthfulness to others); 5.2
(duties of a subordinate lawyer); 5.5 (unauthorized practice of law); 8.1 (disciplinary matters); and 8.4
(misconduct).

The Hearing Panel ordered Anderson to make restitution of fees paid while Anderson was suspended to
Anderson’s former clients or the Tennessee Lawyers Fund for Client Protection if that Fund pays claims to
Anderson’s former clients.

Neither Anderson, nor the Board of Professional Responsibility, appealed the Hearing Panel’s Judgment
and by Order filed March 2, 2009, the Supreme Court accepted and adopted the Hearing Panel’s Judgment.
