BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

December 6, 2002
MEMPHIS LAWYER PUBLICLY CENSURED
Mark L. Pittman, of Memphis, was publicly censured by the Board of Professional
Responsibility on November 25, 2002. The censure was issued by the Board pursuant
to Rule 9, Section 8 of the Rules of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Pittman did not
request a hearing on the matter.
In two complaints filed against Pittman, the Board found that he grossly
neglected two clientsâ legal matters and that he had been persistently dilatory in meeting
his commitments to clients, to Disciplinary Counsel, and to the Courts before which he
practiced. The Board also found that Pittman had engaged in a pattern of falsifying the
status of his clientsâ matters in an attempt to hide his neglect, his failure to move with
reasonable promptness and his failure to properly communicate with his clients.
