JOHNSON CITY LAWYER TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED

On September 21, 2009, the Tennessee Supreme Court temporarily suspended the law license of Alex
Vanburen, a Johnson City attorney, pursuant to Section 4.3 of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9. The Board
of Professional Responsibility petitioned the Court to temporarily suspend Vanburen’s law license because of
Vanburen’s failure to respond to a complaint of ethical misconduct.

Pursuant to Rule 9, Section 4.3, Vanburen cannot accept new clients or undertake any new
representation. He may represent existing clients for 30 days, after which he cannot represent them.
Vanburen may file an application with the Tennessee Supreme Court requesting a dissolution or modification
of the temporary suspension order. If he makes such an application, a hearing to consider whether the
suspension should be continued, modified or dissolved will be conducted before a panel consisting of two
members of the Board and one Hearing Committee member.
