MADISON COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED
On October 19, 2009, Angela Joy Hopson, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a
Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Hopson represented the Complainant in a post-conviction proceeding, and the post-conviction court
denied the Complainant relief. Shortly thereafter, Hopson went on maternity leave. Although Hopson left
instructions with members of her office to file a notice of appeal to the Court of Criminal Appeals in the
Complainantâs case, no notice of appeal was filed. Consequently, the Complainant lost his right to appeal.
Hopson assured disciplinary counsel that she would seek to late-file the notice of appeal, but never did so.
Thus, Hopson did not act with reasonable diligence.
By the aforementioned facts, Angela Joy Hopson, has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.3 and
8.1(b) and is hereby Publicly Censured for these violations.
