BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

July 11, 2017
KNOX COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED
On July 10, 2017, William Arnold Hotz, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a
Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Mr. Hotz failed to satisfy a third-party lien which he knew to exist at the time he received settlement
funds and paid the settlement funds directly to his client to the detriment of the third-party lienholder. By these
acts, William Arnold Hotz has violated Rule of Professional Conduct 1.15 (safekeeping property) and is hereby
Publicly Censured for this violation.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorney’s ability to
practice law.
