HAMILTON COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED
On August 17, 2020, Michael Robie Buchanan, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, was
publicly censured by the Supreme Court of Tennessee conditioned upon payment of fees to the Board of
Professional Responsibility.
Mr. Buchanan failed to timely remit agreed employee deferral contributions to the firmâs 401(k) plan
and matching contributions. By these acts, Mr. Buchanan executed a conditional guilty plea acknowledging his
conduct violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.15 (safeguarding funds) and 5.3 (responsibilities regarding
nonlawyer assistance).
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to
practice law.
