SULLIVAN COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED
On September 27, 2011, Howard Robert Orfield of Bristol, Tennessee was publicly censured by the
Tennessee Supreme Court pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 4.4. Mr. Orfield violated the Rules of
Professional Conduct by failing to diligently represent and by failing to adequately communicate with his
clients. Mr. Orfieldâs actions violated Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 8, Rule of Professional Conduct 1.3
(Diligence) and 1.4 (Communication). Mr. Orfield was further ordered to pay the expenses and costs of the
disciplinary proceedings against him, pursuant to Rule 9, Section 24.3, of the Rules of the Supreme Court.
For these violations, the Supreme Court of Tennessee publicly censured Howard Robert Orfield. A
public censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to practice
law.
