LAW LICENSE OF ELIZABETHTON ATTORNEY SUSPENDED FOR 30 DAYS
The Supreme Court of Tennessee has issued an order suspending the law license of
Thomas E. Cowan, who practices law in Elizabethton, for 30 days.
Mr. Cowan evidenced a pattern of failing to timely submit divorce judgments for
signature and of failing to timely file said judgment in divorce matters.
On September 8, 2000, Mr. Cowan was found in contempt by Judge Thomas Seeley as
a result of this pattern. Mr. Cowan was fined and ordered to serve two days in jail.
This suspension was issued per an agreement between Mr. Cowan and Disciplinary
Counsel. The agreement was approved by the Board of Professional Responsibility,
and the Supreme Court of Tennessee. Mr. Cowanâs suspension ends on January 15.
Reinstatement of his law license on January 16 is automatic. This discipline was issued
pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 9.
