Public censure on March 1, 2001. She represented a client in 1984 in a divorce. A hearing was
held on October 29, 1984; however, an order was never entered from that hearing. Accordingly,
an Order of Dismissal was entered in the client's divorce on November 7, 1985. The client was
never advised that her divorce was dismissed and believed for approximately 15 years that she
was divorced. Mayes did nothing to correct the problem until the complaint was filed with the
Board.
