SHELBY COUNTY LAWYER PLACED ON DISABILITY
On April 1, 2010, the Supreme Court of Tennessee issued an Order transferring the law license of
attorney William T. Maxwell, Jr., of Memphis, Tennessee, to disability inactive status for an indefinite period.
Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 21, provides that if a lawyer is incapacitated to the extent that he cannot
adequately practice law, his law license may be transferred to disability inactive status. Mr. Maxwell may
petition for dissolution or modification of his transfer to disability inactive status as provided for in Supreme
Court Rule 9. However, upon a showing that Mr. Maxwellâs disability no longer exists, his right to resume the
active practice of law is not subject to automatic reinstatement.
