MEMPHIS LAWYER CENSURED

On November 20, Valerie Corder of Memphis, Tennessee, was publicly censured by the Tennessee
Supreme Court.

The Board of Professional Responsibility filed a Petition for Discipline against Ms. Corder pursuant to
Rule 9, Rules of the Supreme Court. Ms. Corder submitted a Conditional Guilty Plea acknowledging violation
of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 8, Rules of Professional Conduct 1.6 (terminating representation) and 8.4
(misconduct).

Ms. Corder did not promptly withdraw after her client testified falsely at a deposition. At a subsequent
hearing, Ms. Corder did not rely on the false testimony but did not correct the deposition testimony because the
hearing was unexpectedly adjourned prior to its completion. Ms. Corder did not thereafter move to withdraw
from representing that client.

For these violations, the Tennessee Supreme Court publicly censured Valerie Corder. A public censure
is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but does not affect the attorney’s ability to practice law.
