RUTHERFORD COUNTY ATTORNEY DISBARRED

On January 3, 2012, the Tennessee Supreme Court disbarred Tony Lawrence Maples, a Murfreesboro
attorney, pursuant to Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 4.1. Mr. Maples was ordered to pay restitution
to two former clients totaling $14,532.00. Additionally, Mr. Maples must submit to an evaluation with the
Tennessee Lawyer’s Assistance Program as a condition precedent to reinstatement.

A Petition for Discipline was filed against Mr. Maples containing two (2) complaints of disciplinary
misconduct alleging that Mr. Maples violated disciplinary rules by abandoning his practice, failing to represent
his clients with diligence and competence, and failing to communicate with his clients.

Mr. Maples’ actions violated Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 8, Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1
(Competence), 1.3 (Diligence), 1.4 (Communication), 1.5 (Fees), 3.2 (Expediting Litigation), 8.1(b) (Bar
Admission and Disciplinary Matters), and 8.4 (Misconduct).

This is the second case in which Mr. Maples has been disbarred for disciplinary violations. Mr. Maples
must comply with the requirements of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, Sections 18 and 19, should he seek
reinstatement of his Tennessee law license and he may not resume practice until reinstated by further order of
this Court.
