MEMPHIS LAWYER SUSPENDED FROM PRACTICE OF LAW

Jack McNeil, a Memphis lawyer, was temporarily suspended from the practice of
law by the Supreme Court by order entered, pursuant to Section 14 of Tennessee
Supreme Court Rule 9, on March 30, 1998. McNeil was convicted by guilty plea of a
Class B misdemeanor assault, in violation of Tennessee Code Annotated 39-13-
101(a)(3).

The Court order found that it had been specifically shown that McNeil committed
this offense by intentionally and knowingly causing physical contact with a client while
acting as her attorney, and that a reasonable person would regard the contact as
extremely offensive or provocative. Under the circumstances presented, the Court
concluded that the assault constituted a serious crime involving improper conduct as an
attorney under Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 14.2.

The Court referred the matter to the Board of Professional Responsibility for
institution of a formal proceeding in which the sole issue to be determined shall be the
extent of final discipline to be imposed as a result of the conviction by the guilty plea.
McNeil shall remain suspended until final discipline is determined and completed.
