NASHVILLE ATTORNEY CENSURED
On March 27, 2008, Gary D. Copas, of Nashville, Tennessee, received a Public Censure from the
Tennessee Supreme Court.
The Board of Professional Responsibility filed a Petition for Discipline against Copas pursuant to Rule
9, Rules of the Supreme Court of Tennessee. Copas submitted a Conditional Guilty Plea agreeing to accept a
Public Censure and refund $2,500.00 to a client for Copasâ neglect of the clientâs case and failure to respond to
the clientâs inquiries and keep the client informed about the case.
Copasâ neglect and failure to communicate with his client violates Rules 1.3; 1.4; 1.5; 1.16, and 8.4 of
the Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct. For these violations, the Supreme Court of Tennessee publically
censures Copas. This censure declares Copasâ conduct to be improper, but does not limit his right to practice
law.
