RELEASE OF INFORMATION
RE: WILLIAM C. GOSNELL, BPR #4369
CONTACT: A. RUSSELL WILLIS
BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
615-361-7500
January 9, 2015
SHELBY COUNTY LAWYER PLACED ON DISABILITY INACTIVE STATUS
By Order of the Tennessee Supreme Court entered December 23, 2014, the law license of William C.
Gosnell was transferred to disability inactive status for an indefinite period of time pursuant to Section 27.4 of
Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9. The Court transferred Mr. Gosnell to disability inactive status after Mr.
Gosnell gave notice to the Board of Professional Responsibility that he suffers from a disability that prevents
him from continuing to practice law and prevents him from defending himself against a disciplinary complaint.
Pursuant to Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 27.4(a), the Supreme Court has referred this matter to a
hearing panel for the Board to determine Mr. Gosnell’s capacity to continue the practice of law and to respond
to or defend against the pending disciplinary complaint.
Pursuant to Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 28.1, the Order transferring Mr. Gosnell to
disability inactive status is effective upon entry, and Mr. Gosnell is prohibited from engaging in the practice law
after December 23, 2014. Mr. Gosnell may return to the practice of law after reinstatement by the Tennessee
Supreme Court upon showing of clear and convincing evidence that the disability has been removed and he is
fit to resume the practice of law.
