SHELBY COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED
On January 11, 2018, Al H. Thomas, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a Public
Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Mr. Thomas was surety for the payment of court costs in a civil action. When the court costs remained
unpaid after the dismissal of the clientâs lawsuit, the Court entered an order requiring Mr. Thomas to appear and
show cause, if any, why judgment should not be entered for payment of the costs. Mr. Thomas failed to appear
before the Court or provide notice that he was unable to appear.
By these acts, Al H. Thomas has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 3.4(c) (knowing disobedience
of an obligation under the rules of a tribunal), and 8.4(d) (conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice),
and is hereby Publicly Censured for these violations.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to
practice law.
