BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

February 8, 2005
NEWPORT LAWYER TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED BY SUPREME COURT
By Order of the Supreme Court of Tennessee filed February 4, 2005, Susanna Laws
Thomas' license to practice law was temporarily suspended, pursuant to Section 4.3 of the Rules
of the Supreme Court of Tennessee, upon a finding that Ms. Thomas had failed to respond to the
Board of Professional Responsibility concerning two complaints of misconduct.
Ms. Thomas shall not use any indicia of lawyer, legal assistant, or law clerk, nor
maintain a presence where the practice of law is conducted.
The Order filed February 4, 2005, requires Ms. Thomas to notify by registered or
certified mail all clients being represented in pending matters, as well as co-counsel and
opposing counsel, of the Supreme Court's Order suspending her law license. Section 18 of
Supreme Court Rule 9 requires Ms. Thomas to deliver to all clients any papers or property to
which they are entitled. Because Ms. Thomas was suspended on September 7, 2004, for failure
to comply with her Continuing Legal Education requirements and on September 20, 2004, for
failing to pay her annual registration fee to the Board of Professional Responsibility, she should
already have met these requirements and should not have any existing clients or pending matters.
Ms. Thomas may for good cause request dissolution or modification of this temporary
suspension by petition to the Supreme Court. This temporary suspension remains in effect until
dissolution or modification by the Supreme Court.
