April 10, 2002

KNOXVILLE LAWYER SUMMARILY AND TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED

On April 1, 2002, the Supreme Court of Tennessee issued an order summarily and temporarily
suspending Stanley R. Barnett’s license to practice law, upon finding that Mr. Barnett had failed to
comply with the conditions of the Supreme Court’s order dated February 20, 2001 reinstating Mr.
Barnett to the practice of law. Section 4.3 of Supreme Court Rule 9 provides for immediate summary
suspension of an attorney’s license to practice law in cases of failure to respond to a summary of
complaint. Disciplinary Counsel filed a petition with the Supreme Court alleging that Mr. Barnett had
failed to comply with the conditions on his reinstatement.

The April 1, 2002, order precludes Mr. Barnett from accepting any new cases. Mr. Barnett may
continue to represent existing clients for thirty days. Mr. Barnett must cease representing existing clients
effective May1, 2002. After May 1, 2002, Mr. Barnett shall not use any indicia of lawyer, legal assistant,
or law clerk, etc., nor maintain a presence where the practice of law is conducted.

The order requires Mr. Barnett to notify by registered or certified mail all clients being
representing in pending matters, as well as co-counsel and opposing counsel, of the Supreme Court’s
order suspending his law license. Section 18 of Supreme Court Rule 9 requires Mr. Barnett to deliver to
all clients any papers or property to which they are entitled.

This suspension remains in effect until dissolution or modification by the Supreme Court.
Mr. Barnett may for good cause request dissolution or modification of this suspension by petition to the
Supreme Court.
