SHELBY COUNTY ATTORNEY SUSPENDED
On September 27, 2011, the Tennessee Supreme Court entered an Order suspending the law license of
Darren J. Scoggins for five (5) years beginning immediately upon Mr. Scoggins release from prison.
The Tennessee Supreme Court initially suspended Mr. Scoggins on March 26, 2010 pursuant to Section
14 of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9. The Court further ordered the Board of Professional Responsibility to
institute a formal proceeding to determine the extent of final discipline to be imposed as a result of his plea to
one count of false imprisonment, one count of aggravated burglary, one count of aggravated assault, and one
count of possession of a weapon. The Board filed a Petition for Final Discipline on May 20, 2010. Mr.
Scoggins entered into a Conditional Guilty Plea accepting a sanction of five (5) years suspension.
Mr. Scogginsâ actions violate the following Rules of Professional Conduct: 8.4, Misconduct.
Mr. Scoggins must comply with Sections 18 and 19 of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9 regarding the
obligations and responsibilities of suspended attorneys. He must pay the Boardâs costs and expenses prior to
reinstatement to the practice of law.
