TRENTON LAWYER CENSURED
On April 18, 2008, Jeffrey A. Smith of Trenton, Tennessee, received a Public Censure from the
Tennessee Supreme Court.
The Board of Professional Responsibility filed a Petition for Discipline against Smith pursuant to Rule
9, Rules of the Supreme Court of Tennessee. Smith submitted a Conditional Guilty Plea agreeing to accept a
Public Censure. Smithâs failure to adequately supervise an employee, allowing him to participate in the
unauthorized practice of law violated Rule 5.3 of the Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct.
For these violations, the Supreme Court of Tennessee publically censures Smith. This censure declares
Smithâs conduct to be improper, but does not limit his right to practice law.
