TEMPORARY SUSPENSION VACATED
The June 28, 2001 temporary suspension of James Lee Phelan, a lawyer of Memphis,
Tennessee, has been vacated by the Supreme Court of Tennessee by Order filed November 20,
2001.
Phelanâs temporary suspension resulted from the Board of Professional Responsibility filing
a petition under the provisions of Section 4.3 of the Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9 based
upon failure to respond to the Board following notification of a complaint filed against him. Phelan
petitioned to have the temporary suspension lifted and a panel of the Board convened in a hearing
and recommended that the suspension be dissolved. The Tennessee Supreme Court acted upon
the Boardâs recommendation and reinstated James Lee Phelan to the practice of law.
