NASHVILLE LAWYER SUSPENDED

On January 18, 2013, Jerry Alan Kennon, of Nashville, Tennessee, was suspended from the practice of
law by Order of the Tennessee Supreme Court for eighteen (18) months, consisting of thirty (30) days active
suspension and the remainder to be served on probation. Mr. Kennon was also ordered to make restitution to
former clients, to engage a practice monitor for the period of probation, and to comply with the Tennessee
Lawyers Assistance Program. Finally, Mr. Kennon must pay the Board’s costs and expenses within ninety
days.
The Board filed a Petition for Discipline and a Supplemental Petition for Discipline containing seven (7)
complaints of ethical misconduct. Four (4) of the complaints were related to the unauthorized practice of law.
On August 31, 2011, Mr. Kennon was suspended for failure to complete the requisite number of CLE credits.
During that suspension, Mr. Kennon continued to represent clients and file pleadings. The remaining
complaints are related to Mr. Kennon’s failure to properly prepare trust documents, failure to timely file a
lawsuit, and failure to return client documents.
Mr. Kennon violated Rules of Professional Conduct: 1.1, Competence; 1.3, Diligence, 1.4;
Communication; 1.5(a) and (c), Fees; 1.16(d), Declining and Terminating Representation; 5.5(a), Unauthorized
Practice of Law; and 8.4(a), (d), and (g), Misconduct.
Mr. Kennon must comply with the requirements of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, Sections 18 and
19, regarding the obligations and responsibilities of suspended attorneys.
