BRISTOL LAWYER CENSURED
On August 13, 2003 the Board of Professional Responsibility issued a Public Censure as
to Charles L. Moffat IV of Bristol, Tennessee. In February 2000 Mr. Moffatt, due to extenuating
circumstances, failed to adequately communicate with a client regarding a legal matter. Mr.
Moffatt also failed to timely and adequately communicate with the Board relative to its inquiries
in this matter. This censure states that Mr. Moffatt violated DR 1-102(A)(1)(5); 6-101(A)(3) and
7-101(A) of the Attorney Disciplinary Rules. These rules require an attorney to adequately
communicate with clients and the Board of Professional Responsibility.
Disciplinary Counsel filed a Petition for Discipline as to Mr. Moffatt. Disciplinary
Counsel and Mr. Moffatt subsequently entered into a settlement agreement. A hearing committee
of the Board of Professional Responsibility, as well as the Board of Professional Responsibility,
approved the agreement. As a result, the instant censure was issued.
