HAMILTON COUNTY LAWYER DISBARRED
On April 27, 2026, the Supreme Court of Tennessee permanently disbarred Arthur C. Grisham, Jr.,
pursuant to Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, section 12.1.
Mr. Grisham, during the representation of a client, knowingly and repeatedly failed to respond to court
orders, pleadings, and discovery requests he received; failed to communicate with his client regarding the impact
of his failure to respond to the court, pleadings, and discovery requests; and by failed to inform his client of the
resulting dismissal of his action. Further, Mr. Grisham knowingly filed an appeal without informing his client and
obtaining authorization. Finally, Mr. Grisham knowingly ignored court orders to correct deficient pleadings,
which resulted in the dismissal of the appeal and appellate costs being taxed to his client.
After reviewing the judgment of the Hearing Panel pursuant to Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 9, ยง15.4(b) and (c), the
Supreme Court determined Mr. Grisham engaged in pervasive misconduct over several years, causing actual harm
to his clients. The Court conducted a comparative analysis of similar cases and reviewed the applicable ABA
Standards for Imposing Lawyer Sanctions and concluded that permanent disbarment was warranted. Accordingly,
the Court modified the judgment of the Panel from a (10) year suspension to permanent disbarment for conduct
that violated Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct 1.3 (diligence) and 1.4 (communication).
Mr. Grisham must comply with the obligations of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, section 28.1 regarding
the obligations and responsibilities of disbarred attorneys.
