MEMPHIS ATTORNEY SUSPENDED FROM PRACTICE OF LAW
Jack McNeil, a Memphis attorney, was suspended from the practice of law in this state
for a period of eleven months twenty-nine days ending on March 30, 1999, and a concurrent
suspension of indefinite duration until the conditions imposed by the judgment are fulfilled. His
suspension by the Tennessee Supreme Court by Order entered February 5, 1999, resulted from
his conviction in a case involving a serious crime: intentionally or knowingly causing physical
contact with another and a reasonable person would regard the contact as extremely offensive or
provocative.
McNeil had pled guilty in a bench trial with the plea being entered February 5, 1998.
McNeil was summarily suspended by the Tennessee Supreme Court and referred to the Board of
Professional Responsibility for the institution of formal proceedings in which the sole issue to be
determined would be the extent of final discipline to be imposed as a result of the conviction by
the guilty plea.

violations of DR 1-102(A)(1)(3)(4)(5)(6) and found that a suspension of eleven months twenty
nine days and an indefinite suspension until certain conditions are fulfilled was the appropriate
sanction. The conditions are that McNeil must be evaluated as soon as possible by an
independent qualified psychiatrist selected by mutual agreement of the parties; McNeil must
comply with any and all treatment and any evaluation recommended by the physician and submit
appropriate certification and proof thereof; and McNeil must earn three hours worth of
continuing legal education ethics credit in addition to the regular requirement of taking a course
which includes material on discrimination and sexual harassment and furnish appropriate
certification and proof thereof.
