On October 20, 2025, Julie Byrd Ashworth, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a
Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Ms. Ashworth represented a wife in a divorce in which it was alleged that the wife had engaged in
extramarital affairs. At an informal mediation and without the clientâs permission, Ms. Ashworth told opposing
counsel that she was aware that her client had been seen with another man. At a subsequent hearing, without
opposing counsel being present, Ms. Ashworth responded to questions from the judge about her clientâs alleged
romantic relationship.
By these acts, Julie Byrd Ashworth has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.6 (confidentiality) and
3.5(b) (impartiality of the tribunal) and is hereby Publicly Censured for these violations.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to
practice law.
