to practice law in Tennessee
(Knox County)

PUBLIC CENSURE
____________________________________________________________________________
The above complaints were filed against Matthew Hollingshead-Cook, #025939, an
attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, alleging certain acts of misconduct. Pursuant to
Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 9, the Board of Professional Responsibility considered this matter at its meeting
on September 8, 2023.
Mr. Hollingshead-Cook received settlement funds from a client and deposited them into
his trust account. Mr. Hollingshead-Cook then took a break from practicing law and did not give
the client her settlement funds. More than three years later, the client contacted Mr. Hollingshead-
Cook and he provided the funds to her. The funds remained in trust during the interim.
In another client matter, Mr. Hollingshead-Cook deposited client funds into his trust
account. The funds were a distribution from an estate. He did not remit the funds to his client for
almost two years, but the funds remained in trust. Mr. Hollingshead-Cook also inadvertently wrote
a $100 check on a personal matter using trust account funds.
By the aforementioned acts, Matthew Hollingshead-Cook, is in violation of Rules of
Professional Conduct 1.15 (safekeeping funds), 1.3 (diligence), 1.4 (communication), and 1.16
(termination of representation) and is hereby Publicly Censured for these violations.
